Sound Sort practices hearing where a sound is in a word: at the beginning, in the middle, or at the end. Each word is spoken aloud and the letters that spell the target sound are underlined. It is a listening and sorting game; it does not measure how the child says the sound.
Stars and "Perfect!" count the words sorted right on the first try. Every word is still finished before the round ends, and the end screen lists the words to practice again with how many tries they took. Some words have the sound in two places (PAPER has /p/ at the beginning and in the middle); either answer is accepted and the feedback names both. Silent letters do not count: GIRAFFE ends with the /f/ sound. No English words end with the /w/ or /h/ sounds, so in those two levels the End bucket is shown closed. Each level alternates between two word lists, so "Play again" brings new words.
