🎵 Rhyming with Melo

Help Melo find the rhyming words!

Choose your level:

Simple rhyming pairs (cat/hat) — perfect for beginners! 2 choices, 20 questions.

Both modes read every choice aloud, so a child who isn't reading yet can play. “Sounds only” also hides the printed words for a pure listening task.

What this game helps with
Therapy goals: Rhyme recognition, phonological awareness, and auditory discrimination.

Identifying rhyming words helps children notice shared sound patterns at the end of words — a foundational skill for reading and speech development. Melo says a word aloud and the child picks what rhymes.

A note on age: rhyme awareness is an early-developing skill (typically ages 3–7), so this game is built for young children — but it also suits older children who are still building these skills. Difficulty scales the listening, not the child's age or vocabulary.

Levels scale the LISTENING, not the vocabulary — every word is familiar: Easy (2 choices) → Medium (3, unrelated foils) → Hard (onset traps: words that start the same but don’t rhyme, so the child must attend to the ending) → Expert (minimal pairs differing only in the final sound, e.g. cat/cap/can — the hardest auditory discrimination). Sounds-only mode removes the print at any level for a pure listening task.
