Calm-Down Corner

Goldie's zen garden — a quiet place to help big feelings get smaller.

What this game helps with
Therapy goals: Emotional regulation, breathing techniques, mindfulness, self-calming, and interoception (noticing what the body feels).

Goldie guides three calming exercises in his zen garden: Belly Breathing (tap-to-breathe; Goldie grows a little on each breath in and settles on each breath out), 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding (an interactive sensory checklist), and Monster Squeeze (progressive muscle relaxation with step-by-step words for each body part). An exercise progress bar shows how far along the exercise is; it does not measure calm.

There is no timer, no score, and no way to fail. Use it before big feelings arrive, or right in the middle of them. Quiet Mode silences every sound, including any sound already playing. A slower pace and a less-motion option are available during each exercise. Older visitors get a short explanation of why each technique works, and the garden keeps a simple count of exercises started, finished, and how the visitor said they felt afterwards.
